Portland Head Light is a lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

It is the oldest lighthouse in the state, having been completed in 1791.

Trivia[]

  • In 1970 it appeared on a postage stamp issued to commemorate the Sesquicentennial, the 150th anniversary of Maine's statehood. This stamp features the painting The Lighthouse at Two Lights, Maine by Edward Hopper, which features the Portland Head Light.
  • In 1981 it appeared on a definitive stamp captioned "...from sea to shining sea."
  • In 2002 it was featured on a stamp in the Greetings from America set, then again when the set was reissued with a new denomination.
  • In 2013 it appeared on a stamp in a set of five depicting New England Coastal Lighthouses.
